Undergraduate Programs

The Department offers two undergraduate programs: Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Students majoring in Operations Research can select one of three optional concentrations: Analytics, Engineering Management Systems, or Financial Engineering.

Undergraduate Advanced Track (UAT)

The Undergraduate Advanced Track is designed for advanced undergraduate students with the desire to pursue further education after graduation. Interested students need to submit a UAT application.

Advising & Program Plans

Each undergraduate student in the IEOR Department is assigned a faculty advisor for one-on-one advisement and coaching. Customized student program plans are provided to assist students with their academic course scheduling.

Industrial Engineering (BSIE)

Designed to develop the technical skills and intellectual discipline needed to become leaders in industrial engineering and related professions, the Industrial Engineering undergraduate program is distinctive in its emphasis on quantitative, economic, and computer-aided approaches to production and service management problems. We focus on providing an experimental and mathematical problem-formulating and problem-solving framework for industrial engineering work, with a broad foundation in the current ideas, models, and methods of industrial engineering.

Operations Research (BSOR)

An applied science, Operations Research is concerned with quantitative decision problems generally involving the allocation and control of limited resources. At the undergraduate level, it offers foundational courses in probability, statistics, applied mathematics, simulation, and optimization, with professionally oriented operations research courses. The curriculum is well-suited for students with an aptitude for mathematics applications.

Operations Research: Analytics (BSOR:A)

The analytics concentration within the operations research program trains students to leverage advanced quantitative models, algorithms, and data for making actionable decisions to improve business operations. Examples include staffing and scheduling at hospitals, ride matching and pricing for on-demand car services, personalized promotions in online retail, and smarter energy consumption.

Operations Research: Engineering Management Systems (BSOR:EMS)

The Engineering Management Systems concentration within the operations research program provides students with an understanding of contemporary technology and management. It is for students who are interested in a technical management background rather than one in a traditional engineering field. Its required courses in industrial engineering and operations research, economics, business, and computer science provide a foundation for dealing with engineering and management systems problems.

Operations Research: Financial Engineering (BSOR:FE)

The Financial Engineering concentration within the Operations Research program provides training in the application of engineering methodologies and quantitative methods to finance. Financial Engineering integrates financial theory with economics, methods of engineering, tools of mathematics, and practice of programming.

Minors

The IEOR Department offers various electives, some of which are needed to fulfill major degree requirements.
