Professor Clifford Stein was awarded a Faculty Mentoring Award for 2023.

Faculty Mentoring Awards, inspired by the incredible mentoring legacy of Columbia Business School Professor Katherine W. Phillips, are given to senior faculty who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the professional development of their junior colleagues.

Clifford Stein is the Wai T. Chang Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, Professor of Computer Science, and Interim Director of the Data Science Institute. He conducts research in the design and analysis of algorithms and in combinatorial optimization. He is particularly interested in the design of algorithms for hard-to-solve problems, arising in areas such as machine learning, large-scale computing, scheduling, and in designing efficient algorithms for manipulating large data.
